The Office Jam: Jordan Kenny Takes the Reins

The Office Jam is the event that keeps bringing people back to BASE Music Studios. Every fortnight, musicians of all skill levels and genres pile into the room for a night of improvised collaboration, unexpected covers, and the kind of musical moments you genuinely can't plan.

This time around, Jordan Kenny stepped up as special guest host. Jordan has been one of BASE Music's biggest supporters since day one, and having him run the room brought exactly the energy you'd hope for: loose, inclusive, and a little bit chaotic in the best way.

The night kicked off with the house band, featuring Alex Sullivan (Almost Toast), Jarrah Murray (Thunderfox), and Lachlan Fitzgerald (North of Quasi). Three musicians from three completely different projects, locking in together for a set that had the room warmed up and ready before the floor even opened.

Then the real magic happened. The Office Jam isn't a showcase, it's a jam. Once the house band wraps up, anyone in the room can jump on stage. It doesn't matter if you've been playing for six months or six years. Grab an instrument, pick a key, and see what happens. That's the whole idea, and it works every single time.

What makes The Office Jam different from an open mic is that nobody's performing alone. You're always playing with other people, often strangers, figuring it out in real time. Some of the best moments come from combinations nobody would have put together on purpose.

The Office Jam runs every fortnight at BASE Music Studios in Crows Nest. The next one features Jazzy Gold as special guest host on August 26.
